Taza Chocolate Factory founder Alex Whitmore took his first bite of stone ground chocolate while traveling in Oaxaca, Mexico. He was so inspired by the rustic intensity that he decided to create a chocolate factory back home in Somerville, MA.
Apprenticed under a molinero in Oaxaca, he learned how to hand-carve granite mill stones to make a new kind of American chocolate that is simply crafted, but seriously good.
Learn how Taza Chocolate is made, from bean to bar, and then sample several of their varieties and learn which wines compliment them best to enhance the flavors.
Enhancing the experience of both Taza Chocolate Factory and Night Shift Brewing is Boston Magazine Award winning Ball Square Fine Wines. They will not only provide the wines and expertise for the chocolate pairings, they will also provide some gourmet offerings to be paired with NSB beer selections. Located in Somerville with a new location in Needham, this two time winner of Boston Magazine’s Best of Boston Award – Best Wine Shop will inspire wine lovers with their in-depth knowledge and warm, engaging approach.
Three friends decided to start Night Shift Brewing and began brewing beer in their kitchen while keeping their day jobs. Years of testing and tweaking led to some memorable, innovative, and truly great beers. When everyone started demanding more Night Shift beer, they realized: brewing had become much more than a nighttime hobby.
A perfect ending after winding our way through the city neighborhoods is OpenTable Diner’s Choice Winner for Scenic View, Zephyr on the Charles at the Hyatt Regency. You’ll love the breathtaking Boston scenery across the moonlit Charles River almost as much as the sumptuous desserts and special coffee drinks enjoyed through either picture windows or on the Zephyr Patio.
